Flash Fiction

Knocks

Every knock
Every blow
Even with a smile
Taking its toll

I curl a little more
Defend ny soul

Keep walking
Talking
Getting on
But the dance is gone

Turning up but absent
Speaking out but silent
My truth locked up tight
Doesn’t know how to fight

Time passes
Still I walk

The desolation leaks from my eyes
Surges up from my gut
Rolls deep in my chest
Won’t let me forget

Sadness hits hard at my dam
Creaks, cracks, bursts
And all is lost
Halt the walk, the talk, the getting on

The silence echoes deep
Just let me sleep

Protection gone
Days stretch on
Heart – wide open – roars deep
Release is sweet

Soul open, eyes see
In time this pause leaves a better me
